Special Role
As
a parent, you play a special role in contributing to the needs and
development of youngsters.
Through your encouragement and good example, you can help assure that
all the boys and girls learn good sportsmanship and self-discipline. In
AYSO, young people learn to work together, to sacrifice for the good of
the team, to enjoy winning and deal appropriately with defeat - all
while becoming physically fit and
healthy. Best of all, they have fun. Please read these important
articles regarding your role and participation. See also Region
24's Code of Conduct for all
volunteers and parents as adopted by our Board of Directors and
your Volunteer Agreement below.
- I understand that Downey AYSO Region 24 is an ALL VOLUNTEER
organization.
- I understand that I will be required to complete 3 hours of
Volunteer Service per player during the season.
- I understand that I must work the hours on the date that I
am scheduled. The Team Manager or Coach will provide my
scheduled time to me at least 2 weeks in advance.
- If I am unable to work during my scheduled time, I will find
a replacement over the age of 16 to complete my scheduled time.
Working together will make this a great season. Thanks
in advance for your participation.

Tolerance!!! At the recent round of
referee training, Region 24's Referee Instructor Hank Strang
announced an enforcement policy change for unruly parents who
challenge referee calls during matches. "In the past we've
instructed referees to largely ignore the jeering from the
sidelines in response to referee calls. This has created a
situation where parents think this behavior is acceptable, and
can create problems for other referees when they officiate
matches. It is the duty of the referee to remind the coach
that the behavior of the parents is the coach's responsibility,
and that unruly parents along with the coach will be dismissed
from the field should they continue their negative behavior."
Lucy Aguero, Referee Administrator echoed the statement, "We
have over 25 youth referees, and parent's wouldn't want anyone
to yell at their children, so they shouldn't be yelling at
anyone else's children. They should think how they would
feel if their child was being yelled at."
Parents: Help us set a positive example for our
children by demonstrating Good Sportsmanship. Do this by
not sideline coaching, nor challenging referee decisions.
AYSO is an all volunteer organization and our referees are
volunteers as well. Remember the
Kids Zone pledge that you signed, as well as the various
Codes of Conduct. Have a great soccer year!

No Dogs Allowed!
They may be cute, but they do not belong at the school!
This is a School District policy and we will enforce it.
Regular Fall Season Snack Shack and
Information Tent Duty
Be sure you honor your Snack Shack and Information Tent
commitment. It is 3 hours per player (a 3-hour straight
shift) and your Team Manager will provide the schedule.
After your time, be sure to sign the volunteer book. The
book is at the Information Tent and you can look for your team's
assignments . Thanks for your support!
Referee Volunteer
Opportunities
AYSO as an all volunteer organization depends upon your
participation. In fact, we require it! Each family
must volunteer several hours during the season, otherwise you
will not receive your trophy or yearbooks. One way to
fulfill this requirement is to referee. Every team is
responsible to field three referees per team to officiate the
match following your game. Check back here often for
updates on training clinics.
