DOWNEY AYSO COVID-19 UPDATE

As our community makes progress with battling the COVID-19 pandemic things are starting to look promising. Our Downey AYSO board has been working countless hours in planning our Fall 2020 “Return to Play” with the hopes of getting back some normality into our lives.

Without further ado we are very excited to announce that our tentative start date for soccer training will be the week of September 14th. Our program will be a little different than past seasons due to restrictions around the pandemic. The region will continue to follow local and state guidelines, however, we are still limited with not competing in full physical contact. Players will have an opportunity to start soccer training in a camp type of format in mid-September. Teams will not be formed until physical contact restrictions have been lifted. For players who have already registered they will be allowed to participate in a 10 week training program starting on September 14th.  Once we get the green light for full contact play we will start forming teams, ordering uniforms and setting up game schedules. We are very hopeful that this will take place in early November.

Experienced and registered coaches will be assisting in running our 10 week training program. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 health and safety guidelines as we await anxiously to move onto the next phase of our Fall 2020 season. The region will still need a few more coaches in each of our divisions.  If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to our Coach Administrators, Jaime Martinez at [email protected] or Jose Gutierrez at [email protected]

In the meantime, those of you who have already registered please go back into the Sports Connect portal and make sure you fill out the Concussion Information Sheet, the COVID-19 Waiver form and your child’s medical-release form (also known as the player registration form). Please have these printed and ready to submit when we start our PRE-SEASON TRAINING CAMP.
